Eilidh has 5 years’ experience working In the environmental sector, having worked for The Conservation Volunteers (TCV) as a Senior Project officer and for Stirling Council as a Countryside Ranger. Eilidh has also volunteered with British Trust for Ornithology and the Highland Ringing group. Through her previous roles and volunteering efforts, Eilidh has worked across much of Central Scotland and the Highlands and Islands.
Eilidh is well practiced in a number of survey techniques, such as invertebrates sampling using various techniques (including: pit fall traps, sweep nets, beating of woody vegetation, moth trapping, and transects, as well as kick sampling in streams), as well as use of quadrats and transects to preform vegetation surveys. This is experience gained not only from her previous work and volunteering, but also from her BSc in Ecology and MSc in Environmental Management.
Eilidh’s educational background has given her a solid foundation in report writing and data analysis, as well as other technical skills such as working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and R statistical software.
A particular interest for Eilidh is ornithology, having carried out many bird surveys including breeding bird surveys, vantage point surveys, and seabird colony census counts. Through working with Caledonian Conservation Ltd, she is developing her skills in surveying for protected species including bats, badgers and water voles. She has gained experience working in remote upland habitats, as well as operational commercial forestry and farmland.
Eilidh holds a current Outdoor First aid certificate. She has completed risk assessment training (with The Conservation Volunteers) and has undertaken off-road driving training with the British Off Road Driving Association (BORDA) (Standard Level qualification); she also holds an ATV ticket.
